This directory lists suppliers of laboratory research materials and explains how to assess them by documented quality signals only. It does not describe uses, effects or outcomes of any product, and it does not rank suppliers. Listed stores state that their products are for laboratory research use only.

How to assess a supplier of research materials

The signals below can be checked from a supplier's own documentation. A missing signal is a gap to note, not a detail to assume.

• Independent third-party testing. Analysis by a laboratory that is not owned by the supplier, with the laboratory named on the report.
• Certificate of analysis (COA) for each batch. A COA should match a specific batch, show the test date and the testing laboratory, and be available before an order is placed.
• HPLC and mass spectrometry (MS) reporting. HPLC chromatograms report purity as a percentage; MS data confirm the identity of the compound. A purity figure with no chromatogram or method details is weak evidence.
• Batch or lot numbers. The number on the container should match the number on the COA, so each report can be traced to the material it describes.
• Cold-chain shipping and storage information. Clear statements on how temperature-sensitive material is packed and shipped, and the storage conditions stated on the label.
• Documentation. Safety data sheets, specification sheets and a named legal entity with a physical business address.
• Research-use labelling. Products labelled for laboratory research use only, with no claims about human or animal use.
• Return and replacement policy. A written policy covering damaged shipments, documentation errors and material that does not match its COA.
